The Chilterns

Rhoda Maw created a garden design for this client in Gerrards Cross.

This garden in the Chilterns is on a steep site and the current owners only used a thin, grey patio, but wanted a space to relax, with areas to entertain and to make more use of the views behind.

The construction of a nearby drystone wall was used as a basis to the design providing rhythmical bands of horizontal lines to divide the garden. The undulating rhythm of the landscape beyond was continued and repeated with flowing planting.

The result was a garden with patio: for entertaining, a manageable lawn with secluded seating area and a top wildlife terrace.

This design won a Society of Garden Designers competition.
